Writing While Sick

NaNoWriMo ended for me on November 19th. That was the day I plugged in my last word count that took me over 50,000 words. I finished my first draft right before I had to go back to school for my afternoon class and frisbee practice. When I got home that night, I had a dry throat, which I attributed to not having enough water during practice. The next morning, however, I work up with a very painful sore throat, and by the end of the day, I was lying on the couch under three blankets with a fever. It's now Saturday, and while I can happily say the fever is finally gone, the residual effects have decided to hang on and keep me down.

So how do I write when I'm sick? Well, first off, I don't as much as I would like to. The times when I feel good enough to sit up and look at computer screen have been far and few between. So during those times I feel ok, or when my medicine kicks in, I'll sit and write a few words. And that's usually all that happens. I just get a few words in. And that's fine. The last thing I want to do when I'm sick is overwork my brain, so I keep it to just five minutes at a time. Then the computer goes back down and I resume my resting position on the couch.

Being sick when you've got an overactive imagination is never fun. But I've got my EmergenC, my soups, and lots of water, and I think I'm feeling good enough today to where I can cash in my 50,000 word reward, so here's hoping for some Freddy's for lunch! When all this yucky-ness is over, I'm hoping to go back to my normal writing routine and really get my second draft going. I have a lot of ideas that I want to flush out, so I'm going to rest up and get my brain cells back.

Happy writing y'all!
