Waking Up at 5 AM to Write?!

Yes, you heard that right.

I wake up at five o'clock in the morning to write.

"Buy why?" you may ask. "Why would you do that to yourself?"

Well, to answer that, I'm going to take you back to 2018. In November of last year, Steven started his new job. At the time, I was living in Arizona and he was back in Virginia. The nice thing about Arizona is waking up early there was relatively easy (and honestly quite enjoyable). But when I moved back to the East coast, I was not getting the same amount of sleep to get up earlier than eight o'clock. Steven was already working at his new job which required him to be at work between 4:45 and 5:00 in the morning. I would wake up with him long enough to say goodbye but then I would go back to sleep.

Then there was one morning I couldn't go back to sleep. No matter how hard I tried, it didn't happen. So I stayed up, watching TV, playing around on the computer. By the time the sun was up, I felt like I still had a whole day ahead of me and had all the time in the world. I loved that feeling, and so I kept waking up with Steven and staying up. I found I was more productive the earlier I woke up, and that was a great discovery (because I am not a productive person). Watching the sunrise is a plus too.

Especially now that I'm back in school and working, having those extra hours to myself are important. It's when I get my writing in for my novel (also gives me time to do homework before class). It has become part of my writing routine, which is still in development. Writing is all about exploration, and finding a routine is part of that process (I'll write about that once I figure it out).

Coming someday: My Writing Routine :P

Happy writing y'all!
